| | confused | ] | I have learned that my musical tastes and my parents' musical tastes just don't overlap very much. Even if we happen like the same bands, we have very different ideas of what is their best work. I think I have the right to be the family authority on what is good music because I know more than everyone else, and I can prove it. About a week ago, I was trying to find some music that we all could agree on and this conversation took place: Me: Do you like Pink Floyd? Because a lot of people don't like their stuff because it's pretentious... Dad: Amber, I don't even know who Pink Floyd is. Me: ...?! Dad: Just play whatever, as long as it's not that rap. Me: ...you don't know who Pink Floyd is? Dad: distracted No. Me: Another Brick in the Wall? Dad: I don't know! Me: Dad. That was your music. [okay, so he would have been 40 when it came out, but from what I've been told, that song was a Huge Fucking Deal when it came out, so... huh?] Amber starts playing The Wall Me: Okay, listen to this song that's coming up. Another Brick in the Wall plays Me: Okay, so this is Pink Floyd, yeah? Dad: I think I've heard this before... Help me.
Edit: Amber was so stunned that her father didn't know who Pink Floyd was that she told herself that her father was 10 years older than he really is. Amber is a dumb child and her dad was only 30 when Another Brick in the Wall became a single. |

| | moody | ] | Wow, I really didn't think I would be getting that upset over him- we were just having fun, enjoying the small amount of time we would have together. But now the fun is over and we're going our separate ways and it's making me sad.
I can't believe I cried. And he probably doesn't feel anything more than "Aw, that sucks." |

Jenni: So when I was in high school, my mom let me paint my own room. Me: Ha ha... Jen: And I painted it all this toxic bright neon orange. Me: Awesome. Jen: Except for this one wall 'cause I got sick of the color so I painted this girl that looked all posessed and shit. And my room had this giant window facing that wall? So at night my window had this bright orange glow coming out of it and you could see the demon girl. It was awesome. Me: I'm jealous. Jen: But then somebody complained to the neighborhood association and I had to paint it over. Me: You really do live in the seventh circle of suburbia, don't you? |

But think about it: it's only 4/5/06 in some places. If you're from Europe you have to wait for May 4th and if you're from China where they date things from largest to smallest, you have to wait until 5:06:07 March 4th 2012 and really you missed your last chance in 1234 since in every thing I've seen they prefer to write out the whole date.
I suppose I'll just have to wait for 1:23:45 6/07/08, American and European. |

I went salsa dancing (which I've never done before) and I hung out and I did nothing productive and I had fun. How long has it been since I've just had fun? Too long.
I've been in such a good mood all day.
This is what I need, friends to remind me to go out and have a good time.
Oh yeah, Maria if you read this, I saw Neill on Friday and I told him that I switched my major to Anthropology. It made him very happy. |

Okay, so maybe that makes me totally vain, but that made me feel really good about myself. And I need to feel really good about myself right now. |

| | accomplished | ] | My semester? Is DONE.
Thank. Fucking. God. Ugh. I need this semester to be over so bad and, as it seems, so does everybody else in this world.
I got my B in CS so that makes me happy. The jury's still out on my Chinese grade, but I'm on the border line right now so it's very possible that I've got an A in that class. That makes me very, very happy. Chinese has been the hardest and most fun class that I've ever had.
I just spent the last several hours goofing off on the internet. Grounding myself from the internet was a good move, even though I did cheat a couple of times. I'm going to continue restricting my internet usage because it's good for my soul and it will force me to do things to keep myself occupied.
I'm going to eat dinner. Then I'm going to clean my bathroom and then I'm going to start packing. |

| | determined | ] | I've grounded myself for the rest of the semester (or until I both pull my Chinese grade to an A and my Computer Science grade to a B) from the internet except for school-related activities. Well, and if anything reallysuperdramaticohmygodcakes I will be allowed to blog it.
I have a bad habit of sitting there reading stuff on Wikipedia or The Straight Dope and I'm really screwing myself over.
I mean, it could just as well be teevee or wandering around the house not doing anything, but I do surf the web and I do justify it with a "Well, I'm learning stuff..." and I do have these other side projects that I never get around to because I want to play on the computer so it's gotta go.
So, TTFN and I hope that I'm un-grounded before the end of the semester. |
